Cedar Breaks National Monument (One of my favorite places, indeed!)

Always have to keep an eye out for wildlife!

We drove on 89 for a long while...

You always have a new and changing landscape to enjoy.
There is so much space, so much land....

Cedar Breaks.... only 4 more miles....

One of the first things you notice is the lava rocks...fields of black chunks...

...and also the groves of aspen trees...

Rocks are strewn across the fields...

...and little birds nest and feed among them.

Earth is pretty amazing.

Remnants of snow in June remained (elevation here is about 10,000 ft.)

The snow scrapes the volcanic rock eroding the landscape a tiny bit at a time...

Cool!

This is why Cedar Breaks is one of my favorite places.

This is on our hike to Brian Head, the 11,000 ft. elevation peak that looks over Cedar Breaks.

Sub alpine flowers...

Little flowers grow in very tough conditions.

Shelter at Brian Head.

View from 11,000 feet...

Looking toward Cedar Breaks from Brian Head...

Breaking through the melted snow...

It would be wonderful to be able to spend days recording the different kind of light in this place...

Texture in the plants...

New friend, the marmot....

He hung out on the edge....

Nibbling on greens....

Looking right at me...

So cute! Will have to visit again another day...
